A-League football legend Besart Berisha has said that Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has done an ‘incredible’ job.

Speaking to Australian outlet Keep Up, Berisha said that the 57-year-old manager has inspired his own coaching career.

Postecoglou is arguably already one of Australia’s most impressive coaching exports.

His 2019 J-League triumph with Yokohama F. Marinos earned him his move to Celtic two years ago.

From there, he’s gone from strength to strength, earning back the Scottish Premiership title and leading Celtic into the Champions League.

Despite their run to the last 16 of the World Cup, there are few Australians making a big impact on the pitch in Europe right now.

However, Berisha has classed Celtic boss Postecoglou as one of his inspirations as he starts his coaching career.

The Kosovan international recently retired from football, after breaking the A-League goalscoring record.

He’s now hoping to follow in the footsteps of his old boss, and believes other Australian coaches should look to emulate his success.

Speaking to Keep Up, Berisha is asked who his biggest coaching influences are and replied: “That’s a good question.

“I mean, I had after a 17-year career a lot of coaches – I had in one team in Germany in one year four coaches.

“So, I had a lot of coaches. I cannot go away from a coach I had so much success (with).

“This is incredible [Ange’s success in Europe]. This should be for Australia the goal, the way Ange is doing in Celtic.

“The way he is doing is something very special, which every coach should look up to them.

“Watching now as a young coach, seeing how tough this world this as a coach, it is not easy to achieve such a success with Ange did in Celtic and play winning the title in Scotland and playing a Champions League and being unlucky in Champions League.

“This is a dream. This is what the goal for every young coach and you know I cannot [have more] praise [for] both of them [Ange and Kevin Muscat] and the way they do it.

“And I know them really well, I know why they have this success, it’s no surprise for me.”

Berisha spent a season playing under Postecoglou at Brisbane Road in the A-League.

It was a very successful campaign for Berisha and the club, as he finished top scorer in the league.

Not only that, the club went on to win the title, with Berisha scoring the winner in the Grand Final in the 97th minute.

Given the success they had together that year, it’s no surprise Berisha looks up to Postecoglou, especially due to his success at Celtic.

It’s another example of the impact Ange has had on the players he’s managed.
