Celtic have learned that they will face either Kairat Almaty or Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League play-off tie.
Recent years have seen Celtic qualify for the Champions League main phase automatically but this time they must contend with a play-off.
The 2024/25 season was arguably the Bhoys’ best showing in UEFA’s premier competition for some time after big wins against Bratislava and RB Leipzig, as well as matching Bayern Munich across two legs.
This game is worth around £40m and after the draw was confirmed, Celtic fans were quick to react after learning their opponents.

When is Celtic vs Kairat Almaty/Slovan Bratislava?
The Hoops will have to play a two-legged tie to secure their place in the league phase.
If they fall to defeat then they will drop into the UEFA Europa League phase, but it’s the main competition everyone wants to be a part of.
- First leg: 19/20 August
- Second leg: 26/27 August
The official date and time of the games are yet to be confirmed but Celtic will be at home for the first leg meaning that the second leg could take place just four days before the trip to Ibrox to face Rangers.
