Bhoys Celtic have released a statement following the club’s decision to ban The Green Brigade for six games.

A statement from the Green Brigade branded Celtic as ‘disingenuous’ following an open letter from the Hoops on Friday night.

Within the piece, the club confirmed that Celtic’s most active supporter group were to be banned for the next six matches after they were involved in an altercation with Police Scotland and stewards after the 4-0 win against Falkirk.

In response to one supporters’ group’s statement, Bhoys have now come out defending their fellow fans.

Bhoys release statement in response to Green Brigade ban

The group posted their response in an Instagram post on Saturday morning, which read: “We consider the ban of the Green Brigade for the next six games to be disproportionate, illogical and again, amounting to dangerous collective punishment of Celtic supporters.

“Once again, those running our club have acted unilaterally, enacting punishment with no investigation and following no set disciplinary process – setting a dangerous precedent whereby areas of our stadium can now be shut and fans banned at the behest of police and stewards who continue to act aggressively and with impunity within our stadium.

“Celtic fans have repeatedly raised the issue of the over policing of turnstiles and concourse areas in the stadium this season. Instead of engaging with us to understand and address concerns, the club has chosen to back the police.

“This comes amid a wider pattern of increasingly aggressive tactics by Police Scotland towards football supporters, highlighted by the widely publicised attack against Hibs fans after the Edinburgh Derby in October.

“The board’s quick and decisive action to the alleged incident at the Falkirk game is in stark contrast to the handling of the Fairhurst Inquiry into the unlawful detainment of Celtic fans making their way to the stadium in March 2025 – a process that saw delays, a lack of meaningful engagement and no decisive action or even words from the club.

It is no coincidence that the ban comes at a time when the Celtic board have refused to meaningfully engage with the Celtic Fans Collective and shown their inability to address legitimate concerns relating to how they run the club on and off the pitch. This ban must be viewed in this context.

“We once again reiterate that the campaign and dissent against the board is support wide and we call on Celtic fans to show unity in opposing the collective punishment of the Green Brigade and the precedent it sets.”
