“Big blow”; Celtic fans left gutted as Albian Ajeti suffers hamstring tweak

Celtic fans on social media were left gutted after watching Albian Ajeti come off against Hibernian with a hamstring knock.

Neil Lennon stated post-match that it looks as though the Swiss front-man will be out for the next couple of weeks. That means he won’t play any part in our Europa League play-off tie in Sarajevo this Thursday, and is also a doubt for the upcoming Glasgow derby vs Rangers.

Ironically, the injury came just as Ajeti had fired in his fifth goal in six Premiership games. He’s now netted against Dundee United, Motherwell, Ross County, Livingston, and now Hibs respectively.

And even though the injury doesn’t look like being anything long-term, the Hoops fans were still concerned at having to miss their summer signing for any length of time:

So what games is he scheduled to miss?

Fortunately, we have an international break coming up that could help minimise any potential damage with regards to not having him for upcoming matches.

Let’s look at the worst case scenario and say he’s out for three weeks. That would keep Ajeti out of games against Sarajevo (away), St Johnstone (away),  and Rangers (home). He would, in theory, be back for the trip to Pittodrie on October 24th.

However, given the fact Ajeti jogged off the pitch yesterday, that’s hopefully a sign that the club have managed to catch the hamstring tweak before any real damage could be done.

Make no mistake, all eyes are on that clash with Rangers on October 17th, which sits just three weeks away. Ideally, Ajeti would’ve gotten more minutes into his legs with Switzerland before coming back and facing Steven Gerrard’s men.

Yet, at the same time, perhaps it’s for the best that he stays in Glasgow and tries to boost his recovery-time at Lennoxtown. If ever there was a time to be out for two weeks or so, now could very well be it.

So long as Ajeti is fit for Rangers’ visit then not many fans will be too upset. But for now, all of that is up in the air, and likely will be for some time.
