Celtic winger Mikey Johnston is a fitness worry for this weekend’s Betfred Cup clash against Dunfermline Athletic.

The Hoops host the mid-table Championship outfit on Saturday afternoon as they aim to get over the midweek heartache against Cluj. However, Johnston may not be able to take part in the game with Neil Lennon giving an update to press on Friday.

Johnston fitness may be a concern

It seems a bit bizarre that Johnston would be fatigued. He’s only played 74 minutes in Celtic’s last three matches after sitting out the away games against Cluj and Motherwell.

Without being too critical it didn’t seem as if the 20-year-old did a great deal in Tuesday’s match either – so you wonder where the tiredness is coming from.

His injury is likely to give Lewis Morgan a chance to shine from the start. The Scotland international has flattered to deceive in recent weeks with his pacey running often overshadowed by a poor final product.

If he’s to make it at Celtic then Saturday’s game is the kind of one he will have to take by the scruff of the neck. He excelled for St. Mirren at Championship level so should hopefully be able to get the better of the Dunfermline full-back.

If he doesn’t then it will just add further weight to supporters who want Scott Sinclair back in the team.
