Alistair Johnston has been a fine performer for Celtic for many years now.

The Canada star was signed by Ange Postecoglou in 2023 and he has since taken his game to another level under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers.

Johnston also became Celtic captain this season for a brief period, in what was a deserved moment for the right-back, because he has also been a leader without the armband.

Whenever the 26-year-old does interviews, he is refreshing to listen to and you can see why he is popular with the Celtic fans.

But sometimes, you don’t hear what these players are like on the field of play, as a recent encounter between Celtic and Hearts produced a pretty hilarious moment.

Hearts star Blair Spittal was talking about playing against the champions and what it is like, before talk turned to Johnston.

Hearts’ Blair Spittal reacts to ‘uncalled for’ moment with Celtic’s Alistair Johnston

As mentioned above, Johnston has been one of Celtic’s most consistent performers and he takes that confidence with him onto the pitch.

Spittal shared that when facing the Canada international, Johnston proceeded to call him ‘a little b___h’.

The Hearts man, who saw the funny side to it all, told Open Goal that he was ‘one v one’ with the Celtic fullback and he was being urged to take Johnston on in a way he thought was ‘uncalled for’.

“Who did you play (up against), is it Johnston (when you faced Celtic),” asked Si Ferry to which Spittal responded: “Aye”.

Ferry then stated: “He seems like a pure nice guy,” before Spittal shared: “He called me a b____h last year, to be fair,” before everyone laughed.

“I think I was one-v-one with him. Something like that and the ball broke between us. I think he asked me to take him on and he was like, ‘go on, take me on you little b_____h’ or something like that. I was like ‘that’s a bit uncalled for, isn’t it. What’s that for? I was like ‘alright, I haven’t said anything to you’.” added a laughing Spittal.

Never change Johnston

Everyone loves a character and it seems as though Johnston has a confident side to him.

And why wouldn’t you when you are churning in the trophies he is at Parkhead, as well as performing at such a consistent level?!

That right-back spot is as secure as any spot on the pitch for Celtic, with WhoScored rating Johnston’s Premiership performances at 7.36 and just under seven in the Champions League.
