Celtic boss Neil Lennon has revealed that Hoops right-back Hatem Abd Elhamed is a doubt for Sunday’s Glasgow derby against Rangers at Ibrox.
The recent signing from Hapoel Be’er Sheva is struggling with a hairline fracture, and the Hoops boss has stated that although he could play through the pain, it could also keep him out for weeks.
“He’s been very sore”
“Hatem, we’ll have to assess him, but he’s been very sore with a slight hairline fracture” Lennon said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
“Now, you can play with it but there’s a lot of discomfort, and he’s just going through that at the minute. We have to assess him but sometimes it can take a couple of weeks to recover from something like that” he concluded.
The Hoops could be left with a bit of a selection dilemma at right-back for the trip to Ibrox. Elhamed is certainly a doubt. Kristoffer Ajer is also a doubt after suffering an injury in the 4-1 win over AIK.
Ibrox debut for new Bhoy?
Therefore, recent loan arrival from Stoke Moritz Bauer could be handed a debut in the fixture. That would be a huge game for the new Bhoy to make his debut in.
Neil Lennon may feel that is too much of a risk to take. Anthony Ralston came on for Ajer against AIK. Perhaps he will start against Rangers.
It remains to be seen what decision the Hoops boss will make. However, it is a team selection that he will have to get right.
The Hoops have struggled in their last two visits to Ibrox. That can’t be allowed to happen again.
