Celtic have been dealt an injury blow during a very busy time of the season. Hoops boss Neil Lennon has confirmed that Vakoun Issouf Bayo will miss Wednesday night’s game against St Mirren.
Lennon revealed, as reported by the Superscoreboard Twitter account, that the player is set to go for a scan on a knock. This leaves Odsonne Edouard as the Hoops’ only current fit striker.
The news is a real blow for both the player and the club. For Bayo, it denies him the chance of what could have been a rare start against the Paisley side.
Could have made rare start
Bayo needs time to establish himself in the Hoops side. The game against St Mirren perhaps presented the £2 million signing from Dunajska Streda with a chance to find the back of the net.
However, that chance has gone, as he will miss the game. It is a real pity for the player. It is also a pity for Celtic boss Neil Lennon.
He would have been eager to start Bayo, and perhaps give main striker Odsonne Edouard a rest. Now it seems highly unlikely that will happen.
Star striker likely to be denied rest
Edouard will most likely have to play, unless the Hoops boss gambles and plays Ryan Christie a chance up-front.
That might be a bit of a gamble too far though. For the game against St Mirren, Lennon will now have to start Edouard. Hopefully he can get a few goals and be taken off after around an hour. It is just unfortunate that Bayo misses out on what could have been a real chance for the player.
