Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo’s injury last week apparently won’t carry forward to tonight’s clash against Nomme Kalju.

Boli lasted just 37 minutes of the 5-0 rout against Kalju at Celtic Park last Wednesday. Neil Lennon stated post-match that Boli simply felt ill during the contest, which eased supporters who may have been concerned that it was more serious (Celtic TV).

And, according to the Daily Record, Boli is ready to feature tonight against Kalju in Estonia. The newspaper stated that the left-back trained before flying out to Tallinn today. He should be ready to play this evening, and that bodes well for the Hoops.

In Boli’s absence, the next choice would surely have been Jonny Hayes. It could still be the case that Lenny rests Boli ahead of Saturday, but he still has plenty of work to do to impress the Celtic fans.

Hayes has yet to start any of our three competitive games so far. He’ll be hoping that he gets his big opportunity tomorrow night. But, as it stands, you would have to consider Boli as the favourite given supporters are still to be convinced.

Bolingoli-Mbombo’s injury problems hopefully just coincidence

Boli has had to come off in two of his three appearances for the Hoops so far. Injury knocks have threatened to set him back, but with a bit of luck, this is all simply unfortunate timing. Celtic really can’t afford to have injury-prone cover at left-back.

Boli will still be looking to get up to speed fitness-wise too. Sections of the support weren’t happy after his display last week before coming off. Several of his passes were too loose, and he struggled to keep hold of the ball when on it. His determination and overeagerness to impress could be to his detriment at times, but there are plenty of attacking qualities there.

He’s been a bundle of energy in all three of his outings so far. With a bit of luck, the more he gets suited to his team-mates, the more fluid and free-flowing his game becomes.

At the very least, if Boli misses out tonight, then he’s likely to feature against St Johnstone this Saturday. The big question now is whether Lennon keeps him rested up for it.

It’s early days in Boli’s Celtic career. But even at this early stage, he could do with a positive display against Kalju or Saintst to reassure supporters who remain uncertain.
