Kris Commons has lavished praise on Celtic winger Jota today after his stunning performance away to Dundee on Sunday.

The Portuguese attacker was in sparkling form on Tayside, scoring two goals and assisting another. Along with Kyogo, he’s breathed new life into the Celtic attack this season and is already a massive fan favourite.

Commons can barely contain his excitement either, which is rather notable given his criticising Celtic stances over the last few years.

Writing in his Scottish Daily Mail column today [08/11 print edition, Verdict supplement page 16]: “Jota just looks better and better every time I see him. If ever a player was born to wear the Celtic jersey, it’s this boy. He’s just a born entertainer. He’s got brilliant skill and the ability to go past defenders and leave them for dead.

“It’s no wonder the Celtic fans are enjoying watching him so much. Two goals and an assist in yesterday’s win over Dundee continued his outstanding form. That’s now six goals and six assists in just 14 games already this season.

“He’s a fans’ favourite and it’s not difficult to see why. The impact he’s made reminds me of the likes of Scott Sinclair and Patrick Roberts when they first arrived at Parkhead.”

The impact of Jota is undeniable, leading to a clamouring from Celtic supporters to sign him up on a permanent basis. Even Ange Postecoglou has admitted he’d love to keep him if the loanee wants to stay in Glasgow.

Commons describes it later in his column that it’s a “no-brainer” too and that Celtic would be “fools” not to tie him down to a long-term deal, despite a pretty big price tag of £6.5m.

Whether that turns out to be as easy as hitting a button remains to be seen. The player will have a massive say in where he ends up playing next season, whether Celtic have an option or not.

We’ll definitely enjoy him in the meantime.
