Breakdown of Turnbull deal could lead to opportunities for Ewan Henderson

At the moment it looks as if Celtic’s £3 million move to sign David Turnbull is off after the player reportedly turned down the contract offered by the club.

That will be infuriating for the club. Celtic were undoubtedly eager to land one of the most exciting players to come out of Scotland in a while.

However, the apparent breakdown of the Turnbull deal could turn out to be a silver lining for one of the Hoops’ starlets. That player is Ewan Henderson.

Should Turnbull have joined the Hoops, it would mean that Henderson would have been pushed down the pecking order at the club.

But as Henderson as shown in his performances last season, he has a bright future at the club. That future will only be realised if he plays on a regular basis.

Signed long-term deal in January

Celtic are obviously eager to make Henderson a part of the side for years to come. He signed a new long-term deal with the club in January.

Neil Lennon must be impressed with the player, as he featured in six of the games Lennon was interim manager for.

There was a good chance Henderson could have been loaned out of Celtic had the Turnbull deal gone through. As that hasn’t happened, he should be kept, and featured in the first-team squad.

That will only improve Henderson as a player.
