Brendan Rodgers achieved something vs Rangers that Celtic haven’t done since 2018

Celtic played out a turgid draw against Rangers at Ibrox in the first Glasgow Derby of the season.

Brendan Rodgers’ six-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table remains intact after Celtic’s stalemate against Rangers.

In truth, it was an extremely disappointing performance against a Rangers side who have been shipping goals for fun this season as Celtic failed to hit the back of the net.

But that isn’t the only thing the Bhoys didn’t manage to do after Celtic achieved something against Rangers that hasn’t been seen done since 2018.

And it’s not a good look for the Parkhead club.

Celtic failed to record a single shot at goal in the first 45 minutes of draw with Rangers

In a seven-year first, Celtic failed to threaten Rangers’ goal in the first 45 minutes of the Glasgow Derby draw with Rangers.

Celtic huffed and puffed but failed to get anywhere near Jack Butland’s goal to even attempt to blow it down.

The attacking front three of Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Daizen Maeda and Benjamin Nygren failed to create anything of note as Celtic struggled to get near the Rangers goal.

It was a bizarre first half that promised at least some goal-mouth action considering the shaky Ibrox defence have allowed Jack Butland to pick the ball out of the back of Rangers’ goal on 16 occasions this month alone.

Celtic’s next fixture after the international break

The dreaded international break is now upon the Celtic supporters and many will be counting down the minutes until the Hoops are back in action.

With just one day left of the transfer window to go, Celtic fans will be hoping to have a couple of new faces in the club in time for the Bhoys’ next fixture.

Celtic face a tricky away trip to Kilmarnock who sit in fourth place in the league after opening their season with four draws so far.

Brendan Rodgers can ill-afford to have his front three misfiring like they did in the first 45 minutes against Rangers or this will be a long season for the Hoops support.
