Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers joked that he has no interest in any Scottish Premiership football on Sunday because it’s St Patrick’s Day.
March 17th can be a fun occasion for the Irish diaspora around the world. Rodgers intends to relax and enjoy that rather than focus on the Bhoys’ title rivals.
Celtic’s hard work for the weekend is complete after a confident 3-1 victory at home to a defensive St Johnstone side, a team who held Rodgers’ side to a 0-0 stalemate earlier in the season.
The result has put Celtic on top of the table by one point ahead of Rangers’ tricky visit to Dundee tomorrow.
While many Celtic supporters will understandably be keeping a close eye on that live television fixture, Rodgers brushed off questions about it in media duties after Saturday’s win.

He said [Sky Sports]: “It’s St Patrick’s Day tomorrow so I’ll be celebrating St Patrick’s Day. There’ll be a celebration of the Irish community worldwide so I won’t have any interest in any results.
“We have done our job today and that’s all we can do. We’ll have a good day tomorrow and get some good work in over the international break. We’ll be ready to fight for a really exciting end to the season.”
The Celtic boss clearly doesn’t want to get drawn into the unpredictable nature of the ongoing battle for the title. He knows very well nothing is won or lost at this stage.
There’s so much football still to be played including two massive derbies at Ibrox and Celtic Park.
Publicly, Rodgers isn’t going to be commenting on every potential twist or turn. He often remains solely focused on his team and things under his control.
It’s easier at this stage to keep things light – although Rodgers, like everyone, will be well clued up on what occurs at Dens Park tomorrow.
