Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he’s looking to bring in just one more player in today’s Deadline Day

The Celtic manager confirmed the number in his post-match press conference via Celtic’s official Twitter account.

The Bhoys have been linked with multiple right-backs this January. Timothy Castagne has reportedly been approached unsuccessfully, but a deal for a right-back hasn’t yet been done.

But an injury to Filip Benkovic has led to the idea being opened up about Celtic possibly going in for another centre-back too. Rodgers, however, has claimed that the club will work hard to bring just one more in.

Disappointing but expected

It’s difficult to say as a Celtic supporter that you didn’t see this coming. The club have been notoriously quiet on Deadline Days recently, and have grown to underwhelm supporters.

It’s blatantly obvious that the Hoops need to bring a right-back and centre-back to the club. Instead, however, it looks like only one of those positions is going to be covered.

If it’s the Borussia Dortmund right-back Jeremy Toljan, that’s a decent bit of business. Fussball Transfers confirmed that the loan deal is likely to go ahead. That could ultimately be the one Rodgers is talking about, and we spoke earlier about why that move wouldn’t be the worst thing.

But going into a crucial stage of the season with only Nir Bitton and Jack Hendry as centre-back cover could be dangerous. It may also be the case that Hendry also leaves, given Rodgers has mentioned in the tweet about loan departures. The former Dundee man has been linked with a move down south this January.

Dedryck Boyata’s return from injury has also yet to be cleared up. It could still be a while for all we know until he returns. Therefore, if Celtic don’t make a signing in that area today, it could come back to bite us later in the season.

For now, we’ll all hopefully enjoy Deadline Day. Rodgers may believe that the club won’t be “overly busy”, but as usual, all supporters will still have hope they can pull another couple of deals out the hat.
