Brendan Rodgers has provided fans with a positive injury update, as Oliver Burke looks set to face Valencia.

The on-loan West Bromwich Albon star came off against St Johnstone on Sunday feeling a knock. That came after he had set up two of Scott Sinclair’s three goals of the afternoon.

He didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet himself, but Burke once again proved he was a valuable asset to have up top. You can read our verdict on why he’s the number one striker here.

But Rodgers has also come out and eased fears that Burke is a massive doubt for Thursday. Speaking in the Daily Record, the Celtic manager didn’t confirm Burke would definitely be fit, but he does expect him to be.

“Oli took a knock to his ankle. We hope he’ll be okay. You see his intensity and the threat he gives us. He was absolutely fantastic. He should be okay for Thursday.”

Celtic need Burke impact on Thursday night

Whether you thought the loan signing of Burke was a good one or not, Celtic need him on Thursday.

Burke has tasted football at the top level during his time with Leipzig in the Bundesliga. The quality of Valencia shouldn’t be too difficult for him to adjust to.

Given the fact that Odsonne Edouard has only just returned from injury, and Rodgers also seems to like Timothy Weah as a wide man, it looks highly likely Burke will get the nod once again. Given Rodgers’ constant praising of him, it would be surprising if he didn’t.

His pace and power will be an interesting challenge for the Valencia defence to combat. Celtic will just be hoping they have a real star on their hands who can hurt the La Liga side.

And Rodgers calming down any fears of him missing the game is exactly what the fans would’ve wanted. Here’s hoping Burke can subsequently do himself justice if he starts on Thursday.
