Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers, has delivered some encouraging news on Callum McGregor as the Hoops captain recovers from injury.
Rodgers left McGregor out of his matchday squad against Hearts and there is no doubt his team missed the influential midfielder.
With Paulo Bernardo selected to fill in for the Hoops captain, the Portuguese midfielder’s big chance was cut short after being subbed at half-time due to Hyunjun Yang’s controversial red card.
What can’t be denied is that Celtic certainly missed their influential captain. Even at ten men you always feel that, with McGregor in the side, the Hoops can still pull a result out of the bag even with a man down.
But it wasn’t to be and now the Celtic fans will want to know just how long they could be without their captain. Not too long, it seems.
Callum McGregor set to miss two games for Celtic
Brendan Rodgers delivered the timeline that McGregor is set to return to the Celtic first-team and it will leave the fans absolutely buzzing after the disappointment of today.
Rodgers said [BBC], “We have to be cautious with Callum (McGregor) because he’s such an influential player for us.
“Hopefully, he will only miss a game or two. He’s got another scan on Wednesday just to see exactly how bad it is.”
When asked if he thought McGregor would be fit enough for Scotland duty in this month’s international break, Rodgers said, “I don’t think so. He’ll probably need some rest and recovery.”
Looking at Celtic’s next set of fixtures that means that McGregor will miss the Scottish Cup tie against Livingston and then the next Scottish Premiership home fixture against St Johnstone.
After that, the international break kicks in and McGregor should be fit for the tough away fixture against David Martindale‘s Livingston in the league.
With every point now the proverbial prisoner, Callum McGregor will prove pivotal in Celtic’s chase for the title this season.
