Manager Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers after he missed out on today’s Scottish Cup clash against Livingston.
Stephen Welsh was surprisingly included alongside Liam Scales in the defensive line, sparking concern about the status of Carter-Vickers and any potential injury.
The United States international has had several fitness issues since undergoing surgery last summer and the last thing Celtic need is for him to be out for an extended period again.
Brendan Rodgers on Cameron Carter-Vickers
The Bhoys boss told Celtic TV ahead of kick-off on Sunday: “It’s just a precaution, really. We managed him through the last number of weeks and he got through a full 90 last weekend.
“He just felt a little something yesterday in training. It was only a really, really light session.
“We didn’t want to take any risks with him, we have other players who can come in. As a precaution, we take him out, scan the area and hopefully, he’ll be okay.”

Not wholly encouraging then but at least a serious issue has not been confirmed. Every supporter will be keeping their fingers crossed that the scan doesn’t show anything up.
Celtic are undoubtedly a much better side with Carter-Vickers involved. With Maik Nawrocki also currently on the sidelines, depth in the position isn’t fantastic right now.
Welsh and Scales can hopefully cope well enough in the meantime, with Gustaf Lagerbielke acting as back-up despite coming close to leaving the club in January.
We’ll want Carter-Vickers fit and healthy for tougher tests to come, including a crucial derby against Rangers at Ibrox.
