Brendan Rodgers has stated that former Celtic Head of Recruitment Lee Congerton’s results are always positive.
The Northern Irishman hooked up with his former scout once more at Leicester City. That’s after working with Congerton at both Chelsea and Celtic.
It was Rodgers that brought Congerton to Parkhead back in March 2017. But it’s over two years later and Celtic are still feeling the effects of the poor recruitment under the Welshman.

Rodgers, however, appears to have had a mind-blank when touching on Congerton’s appointment. Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, Rodgers couldn’t help but praise his new man with a laughable remark.
“It’s not about getting an appointment, it’s about getting the right appointment.
“He knows what the club expect here, what they want, and I think it will be a really good appointment for the club. I know Lee from my time at Chelsea and he’s always produced very good players.”
Do we need to rhyme them off Brendan?
Yes there were some diamonds in the rough. Olivier Ntcham, Odsonne Edouard, and Timothy Weah were all shrewd signings. But Rodgers appears to be conveniently forgetting the absolute disasters that have entered Parkhead since Congerton’s appointment.

Let’s list a few names shall we: Lewis Morgan, Marvin Compper, Jack Hendry, Jeremy Toljan, Oliver Burke, Kundai Benyu, Charly Musonda, Youssouf Mulumbu. This all comes under the branch of recruitment under Congerton.
For the two years he was in Glasgow, the acquisitions were generally disappointing. For Rodgers to state that he always produces very good players is totally selective.

Make no mistake, Congerton will likely waste Leicester’s money on flop signings with one or two decent buys in there. The fact Celtic have been able to get rid of the Welshman is a boost for us and a blow for the Foxes.
Celtic now have a key opportunity to rebuild their scouting department, but you have to imagine this will only happen once a new manager is appointed.
With John Park reportedly set for a move to Sunderland, it makes the next move from Celtic even more intriguing. But, at the end of the day, we can just be thankful that it won’t involve Congerton.
