Celtic have the chance to put clear daylight between them and Rangers with a big win against Aberdeen this afternoon.
After Rangers’ draw with Dundee, Brendan Rodgers takes his Celtic team to Pittodrie knowing a win will put four points between his side and the Ibrox club.
And here is the team Brendan Rodgers has gone with:
Celtic starting XI: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Tierney, McGregor, Hatate, Nygren, Forrest, Idah, Maeda
Subs: Sinisalo, Trusty, Yang, McCowan, Yamada, Kenny, Engels, Bernardo, Ralston
The Celtic manager has gone with the same starting XI that beat St Mirren at Celtic Park bar one as James Forrest starts and Hyunjun Yang drops to the bench, but the fans are unhappy with one of Rodgers’ selections.
Celtic fans wanted to see Auston Trusty vs Aberdeen
It seems that Auston Trusty’s performances during Celtic’s pre-season has convinced fans the US international should get a run in the team.
However, Rodgers has gone with Liam Scales and many supporters are unhappy.
@matthewo_1888: “Have you learnt nothing? Trusty had an amazing pre-season yet you still start Liam Scales over him.”
@SteveMcGrory2: “I think Auston is better than Liam too and was surprised that he didn’t start on Sunday. But Trusty isn’t “twice the player” Scales is and “end of” sounds like no matter how they both play in the future your mind is made up. Don’t think that’s fair.”
Liam Scales’ performance vs St Mirren merits Aberdeen inclusion
Liam Scales’ inclusion in the Aberdeen Celtic line-up is merited after his performance against St Mirren.
Here is how Fotmob rated the Irish defender:
- Minutes played: 90
- Rating: 8.3
- Accurate passes: 90/98 (92%)
- Tackles won: 2/2 (100%)
- Last man tackle: 1
- Clearances: 8
- Headed clearance: 5
- Interceptions: 1
- Defensive actions: 11
- Recoveries: 5
Scales has earned his place and until he does something to lose it, at least Celtic fans know that they have a more than capable player in Trusty to step in.
