Brendan Rodgers says his Celtic side are still a long way from where he wants them to be.
The Hoops have started the Premiership season very well. We’ve won five of our first six league encounters, drawing the other with St. Johnstone.
Included amongst those five are successes at Ibrox, Pittodrie and the Tony Macaroni Arena — three of the toughest away venues we visit all season.
Celtic still have to visit Fir Park, Tynecastle and Easter Road before the first round of fixtures is up. But it’s been a strong start on the road. We already have a four-point lead on our likely title rivals Rangers.
The team put in perhaps their best performance of the season so far to beat Livingston 3-0 on Saturday. But, speaking after the game, Rodgers maintained we are a fair bit away from our peak.
He also brought his trademark devilment to proceedings as he took a light-hearted pop at some of the negative press the team have received in recent times.

“Supposedly we’re struggling,” Rodgers said before chuckling. (BBC Sportsound)
“It’s just consistency. We have to keep working. We’ve still a long way to go before we are where I’d like us to be.
“But the application the players are giving and the mentality. We’ll grow and grow as a team as the season moves on.”
It must be a scary thought for the rest of the league that we are not even near where Rodgers wants us to be. We’ve already gone to the teams who finished second and third last season and beaten both. We also did it with a stack of injuries.

When the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Maik Nawrocki return, and more summer signings get up to speed, we should be in an even better place.
You’re unlikely to find many Celtic supporters who doubt the team domestically. That’s a good position to be in.
It would just be great to see some positive results in the UEFA Champions League too.
