Celtic fans will have to wait to see Marco Tilio in action after Brendan Rodgers revealed he is suffering from an injury that will keep him out of the first few weeks of the season.
Tilio signed from Melbourne City on a five-year deal earlier this month and it was hoped he could start to make a quick impact in the team, especially with the departure of fellow attacker Jota to Saudi Arabia.
However, it seems Celtic always knew that Tilio would be one to wait on, with the 21-year-old picking up an injury on international duty with Australia last month.
Marco Tilio will miss start of Celtic season
Rodgers said [The Scotsman]: “Marco will be out for a few weeks. He had an issue when we signed him and we knew of it. He will miss the start of the season as he got injured playing for Australia.
“We knew he would miss the first couple of months of the season but he’s an exciting winger who has done well. He fits the profile and when he settles in, he will do very well.”
It’s not the only Celtic injury that has been revealed in the last 24 hours, with Rodgers confirming yesterday that Mikey Johnston could be out for up to three months and that Alistair Johnston has undergone surgery, keeping him out of the start of the season, too.

The good news is that it seems these aren’t surprises that have been dropped on the club or the manager. It will all be built into the planning for the next few months, it’s just that fans are now finding out about it all.
Celtic have three weeks to bolster the squad in the transfer market before the start of the Scottish Premiership season, plus the whole of August to tool up for the UEFA Champions League group stage. There’s plenty of time to do the business needed.
