Brendan Rodgers provides update on Cameron Carter-Vickers after Celtic Park injury concern

It was an excellent night for Celtic at home to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night, winning 4-1 and taking their unbeaten league run to 16 matches.

One of the only concerns came at half-time when Cameron Carter-Vickers was replaced by Nat Phillips in defence.

Carter-Vickers has had injury issues over the last six months so to see him exit the game was a worry for the Celtic Park support, as well as those watching on from home.

Thankfully, it appears there is no great concern about his situation.

Brendan Rodgers provides Carter-Vickers update

He told BBC Radio Scotland post-match: “It was just a precaution. He felt his hamstring was a little bit tight. He wanted to continue but there was no point in risking it when we had a centre-half on the bench.”

The manager also explained that Greg Taylor had been suffering from illness before the match so with the scoreline comfortable the decision was taken to take him off early.

Rodgers has a lot of defensive options right now and it’ll be interesting to see if Carter-Vickers also remains out for the trip to Kilmarnock and their artificial pitch. Just like tonight, no risks will be taken with the defender so important to Celtic.

Phillips came into the game this evening but didn’t impress while Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke are both fit, training and waiting for a big opportunity.

It could be time to see what Nawrocki has to offer after his own injury concerns earlier in the season. The former Legia defender has started just three times for the Hoops and will be eager to get a chance to make a bigger impact than he has.
