Brendan Rodgers sets timeline for Nicolas Kuhn Celtic debut

New Celtic signing Nicolas Kuhn won’t be involved in this weekend’s Scottish Cup match at home to Buckie Thistle.

Kuhn became the first signing of Celtic’s January transfer window earlier this week, joining from Austrian side Rapid Vienna.

He’ll compete for places in the Bhoys attack alongside Liel Abada, Luis Palma and Daizen Maeda, but fans must remain patient for his debut.

Brendan Rodgers has shared the player is building back strength after a recent procedure and despite being involved in training at Lennoxtown, won’t be available until the upcoming test against Ross County.

No Kuhn debut at Celtic this weekend

The Celtic boss said [Celtic YouTube]: “Nicolas won’t be involved at the weekend. He actually had quite a period out, he had an operation on his teeth. So he’s lost a bit of strength.

“He will be okay for Ross County.”

The Buckie Thistle match had looked the ideal occasion to introduce him to the patterns of play within the team and matchday experience at Celtic, so it’s unfortunate Kuhn has to miss out.

Next Saturday’s match at home to County will have to do and it’ll be interesting to see if he comes into the team as a starter or a substitute.

Rodgers has already talked up his quality, so fans won’t be waiting too long to see him in competitive action, unlike some of the summer signings.

Kuhn has made 22 appearances for Rapid this season before switching to Celtic, so he has been playing consistently. In that time he’s scored twice and assisted on seven more occasions.

Everyone is looking forward to seeing what he has to offer in the green and white hoops of the Bhoys, with the club needing to have a very strong January window after lacklustre recruitment in 2023.
