Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic contract situation has drawn a huge amount of speculation.

After a transfer window that didn’t go to plan, Celtic were left scrambling for free agents after the deadline had passed.

Summer targets including Louis Munteanu, Jakob Breum and most recently Kasper Dolberg were courted but not signed, as public demands made by Rodgers were not met.

This left fans hugely frustrated, given that this was not the first occasion on which this had happened. An open letter sent to the club provoked a controversial Celtic statement, which has now triggered impending fan protests.

Amid all the chaos, many have assumed that the transfer struggles will cost the Parkhead board their manager. However, speaking to the media on Friday, he did not close the door on a possible extension.

Brendan Rodgers says he would love to stay at Celtic longer

Rodgers always seems happy at Celtic, but there are sometimes rumours that there is more than meets the eye.

When asked if he was open to staying in the right circumstances, he said: “100%.

“I would love to stay here longer, I’ve had informal chats with Dermot and Michael but no offer to consider.

“I guaranteed I would do three years, and if going forward I do get offered a deal, there does have to be conditions in that, that allow me to work the best I can.”

It remains to be seen how the talks progress, and if a formal offer is ever on the table for one of the most successful managers in the club’s history.

What now for Brendan Rodgers and Celtic?

Now that Rodgers has laid his cards on the table, all eyes are on those upstairs at Celtic Park, with the manager making it clear that he will not renew without guarantees.

However, he has been here before. When the 52-year-old first made his return to Glasgow in 2023, he spoke of a feeling that things were different this time around in terms of transfer procedure.

However, this has not been the case. It’s now over to the club to see how serious they are about keeping Rodgers.

If they aren’t, it will always be on record that they had the opportunity.
