Tonight sees the Scottish Premiership have a full card as Celtic prepare to take on Dundee at Parkhead.
Buoyed by Celtic’s 3-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park, Brendan Rodgers has a selection headache in front of him for the visit of Tony Docherty’s team tonight.
Celtic fans saw the return of Cameron Carter-Vickers at Fir Park and will be delighted to see the US international back in the frame after recovering from his latest injury.
With Auston Trusty and Liam Scales both performing for Celtic well in Carter-Vickers’ absence, the Hoops boss has been told to not be too hasty in throwing the Amercian back into the starting lineup.
Dropping Liam Scales or Auston Trusty to Celtic bench vs Dundee ‘unfair’
Peter Grant was looking ahead to the big game tonight and said it would be unfair to drop either Scales or Trusty after their performances in Celtic’s draw at Atalanta.
Grant told The Go Radio Football Show, “Well, I thought he wouldn’t have started yesterday because I think it would have been unfair on Trusty and Scales because I thought both of them were excellent in midweek.
“And I think that’s the challenge you’ve got to put down. That’s what you’ve got to do if you’re a footballer and you get in there, whether it’s through someone’s misfortune, an injury, whatever, you’ve got to make sure you’re ready to take that opportunity and Trusty couldn’t have done any more than what he did the other evening there.”
Brendan Rodgers told to bench Cameron Carter-Vickers for Celtic vs Dundee
So what does Celtic hero, Grant recommend the Parkhead boss do with Trusty? It’s simple.
“Keep him in,” said Grant, “Carter-Vickers makes everybody else better, but Trusty has done absolutely nothing wrong. He’s defended ever so well.
“His distribution has been much better than I thought, especially playing on the opposite side, not being a natural right footer. And he’s got pace. You know, he’s not let him down, defends his box really well.
“So as a centre half, he’s got all attributes.”
In Celtic’s last two games against Motherwell and Atalanta, 67 Hail Hail rated Trusty an 8/10 against the Italians and 7/10 against Stuart Kettlewell’s side.

Whilst the thought of not starting Carter-Vickers would have kept Celtic fans awake at night in the past, it seems that that worry is now gone after the form of his US compatriot.
Now no one is suggesting that Carter-Vickers needs to win his place back, but surely it’s only fair to allow Trusty to keep his place because as Grant says, he’s done nothing to warrant losing it.
Plus if it means giving Carter-Vickers more time to recover and not rush him back, that can only be a good thing, right?
