Brendan Rodgers urged to axe Celtic star from XI for Scottish Cup semi-final vs St Johnstone

Even though Celtic are heading towards the Treble this season, it hasn’t stopped Brendan Rodgers from making some big calls.

For months and months, everyone has known that the Premiership title is in the bag for Celtic, but it has still left Rodgers unhappy with certain results and performance.

Celtic’s defeat to St Johnstone in Perth a fortnight ago resulted in the manager making big changes for the home clash against Kilmarnock last time out.

The champions-elect bounced back in style and sealed an emphatic victory, with many players across the board enjoying themselves.

From Greg Taylor’s Man of the Match performance to Cameron Carter-Vickers’ thunderbolt of a goal.

But there is one man who the Celtic manager is being told to axe from the XI ahead of the Scottish Cup semi-final against St Johnstone.

Brendan Rodgers told to axe Adam Idah from Celtic’s XI for Scottish Cup semi-final vs St Johnstone

Adam Idah came into the XI for the thumping of Killie, but despite five goals being scored, he didn’t get on the scoresheet and was subbed after an hour.

Paul Slane has told Open Goal that Idah has to ‘come out’ of the Celtic XI against St Johnstone because he just didn’t show enough in the last match.

The former Celtic youth product also shared that he would put goal machine Daizen Maeda back up top.

“Taylor will start, I think,” said Slane. “I don’t think Schlupp will come back in. I think Idah will come out. I don’t think he did enough to keep his place for the semi-final.

“Maeda will start up front. Forrest will start as well, I think. Scales will start, aye. Jota will play off the left.”

How Idah rated for Celtic against Kilmarnock

The issue with Idah is that he has this big transfer fee over his head, and since making his loan permanent, some think he isn’t living up to the expectations.

From Kyogo Furuhashi keeping him out of the XI, and most recently, Maeda, it is a worry that Idah can’t keep hold of a regular starting berth.

Added to that, Rodgers does keep subbing him off, and during the hour he was on the pitch against Killie, he didn’t exactly set the world alight.
