Brendan Rodgers is hoping for a resolution to the ongoing Green Brigade situation at Celtic “sooner rather than later” but has backed the club’s current stance.
The Celtic fan group have been suspended from Celtic Park, with no return date set, and there was a noticeable change to the stadium atmosphere against Aberdeen in the recent 6-0 victory.
The manager reckons his players deserve extra credit for their performance in that context. While backing the club to uphold “values”, Rodgers still wants the issue to be ironed out quickly.

He said [Daily Record]: “It’s all about values. It’s the bigger picture, the values of this club, which are all about respect, integrity and everything else. That far outreaches anything else, and if those values are compromised in any way, then we the club will look at that.
“If someone, or people, are deemed to have misbehaved, you just can’t go along and accept that just because it makes the atmosphere better. We all live to certain values, and I hope we can find a solution to it because, as I said, I think the fans have created a really good atmosphere.
“The team were absolutely brilliant against Aberdeen, because there was a funny sort of atmosphere. I took my hat off to them at the end. I told them they were absolutely brilliant because sometimes you have the home crowd that is really with you, you know?
“But, what I’ll say is that from a football perspective, we will continue to concentrate. The club is working with the different factions of the support base. Ninety-nine-odd per cent of the support base is there with the team, and there is this little side issue that I hope we can resolve sooner rather than later. Because we are obviously much stronger as a force when everyone is together.”
The Green Brigade will be involved in today’s events, albeit not during the match. They’ve announced they’ll be welcoming the team to the stadium ahead of kick-off. So the group will feel a bit of that connection ahead of Motherwell.
Ultimately it’s on the club’s hierarchy and the group to get together and discuss their differences, trying to find a middle ground moving forward. As Rodgers notes, it’s better for everyone when unity is on show.
