Brian Laudrup sums up Michael Beale’s big problem up against “remarkable” Celtic

Former Rangers star Brian Laudrup doesn’t see any sign of Celtic blinking in the face of consistent Rangers form, with Ange Postecoglou’s team remaining steadfastly secure at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Beale’s team remain nine points behind the Bhoys but the goal difference is actually increasing in Celtic’s favour compared to the day he took charge, a sign that regardless of great upheaval at Ibrox, nothing has really changed.

It’s actually what we at 67 Hail Hail said when Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked – the reality is that Rangers’ only hope of getting close to the Bhoys is through an unlikely Celtic collapse. It was a truth no fan of the Ibrox team really wanted to confront at the time.

Laudrup notes ‘relentless’ Celtic nature

Today, writing in The Scottish Daily Mail [07/02 print edition, page 67], Laudrup summed it up by saying: “At the moment, the Ibrox players might feel like they’re running on the spot when they look at the nine-point gap to Celtic staying unchanged. It brings a psychological challenge to every Premiership game. So far under Beale, their response has been excellent.

“Nine wins and a draw from ten league matches is a superb start for any manager. The problem for Beale, of course, is that Ange Postecoglou and his men don’t show any sign of blinking at all.

“Celtic have taken a remarkable level of relentlessness and turned it into their normal way of working. It’s become expected. Game after game, month after month.”

Celtic can hammer home the point in cup final

The Scottish League Cup final at the end of the month really is a huge occasion. It’s a chance for Celtic to hammer home the point they are top dogs right now.

Lifting silverware in a final against them hasn’t been too common in recent years – it would be massive.

It would also leave them on the outside looking in when it comes to a potential treble. If we win the League Cup, sit nine points clear and take care of St Mirren in the Scottish Cup next week – I doubt many people would bet against us.
