Brazilian commentary has surfaced of Daizen Maeda’s incredible goal for Celtic against Rangers.

In what is sure to go down as one of the best Glasgow Derby goals of all time, Maeda pulled off an audacious bicycle kick, looping the ball over Jack Butland…

…you’ve probably watched it thousands of times already. Though Maeda described it as “lucky”, most are rightly praising it as a moment of pure beauty.

They appreciate a ‘golaço’ more than most in Brazil, as their reaction to the goal demonstrates.

Is Maeda’s overhead kick the best you’ve seen scored in a Glasgow Derby? If not, what was? 👀

The goal is Maeda’s seventh against Rangers, and likely to be his last if he departs Celtic as expected this summer.

It has drawn favourable comparisons to Youssef Chermiti’s bicycle kick when the teams met at Ibrox in March.

Hyunjun Yang, who himself scored a stunning Glasgow Derby earlier in the season, offered to hand his Goal of the Season award to Maeda for the goal.

Martin O’Neill said of Maeda after the game: “Sensational, really sensational.

“His second goal was out of this world. But his whole performance, he starts off with closing down and the negative part of the game, which he galvanises the side because he’s so good at it.

“And then his own performance, scoring the goals with the ball was magnificent.”

Asked if the goal was better than Henrik Larsson’s iconic chip against them in 2000, he said: “Yes, it is. Very much so. Henrik will disagree, of course.

“Great goal. He was super today. Super. I’m going to take him out tonight. He was terrific. Really terrific. I don’t know where he gets the energy from.”

Finally, on the moment he attempted the overhead, the interim Parkhead boss said: “Do you know what? Honestly, when he did it, I knew it was going in.

“Because there was enough pace to carry it across. And I think, ‘This is going in.’ And then it went in!

“Not because I said it was going to go in, because it was great.”

Daizen Maeda is likely to leave Celtic this summer

Maeda came close to leaving Celtic last summer, reportedly even clearing his belongings from Lennoxtown ahead of a proposed move to Wolfsburg

After being forced to stay due to a lack of forthcoming replacements, he struggled with his form at the beginning of the season.

With six goals in his last four games, he is now firmly back in the shop window. Aged 28, he is entering the final year of his Celtic contract.

He is set to appear at this summer’s World Cup, where he is likely to see his value increase.
