Celtic youngster Brody Paterson has confirmed that he’ll be leaving the club in the summer.

Paterson is currently on loan with Airdrieonians in League One until the end of the season. However, he won’t be signing a new contract at Parkhead.

The left-back has yet to break through into the Celtic first-team, and the 21-year-old is ready to move on to pastures new when his loan spell comes to an end.

And Paterson has stated that he’ll be using the League One playoff fixtures to try and put himself in the shop window.

As quoted by the Daily Record, the defender said: “My contract is up with Celtic in the summer and I will be leaving. I am looking forward to a new challenge, one I can learn from and can give me a platform to take my career forward.

“I have high hopes and expectations of myself and I want to go to a good, ambitious club that will allow me to do well and I can also help the team progress. I have had a good education at Celtic coming through the ranks and playing for the B team earlier this season and these loans have now given me a good foundation.

“Hopefully, I can have another few games in the play-offs with Airdrie to build on what we have done as a team this season. If we could win promotion it would be the perfect way to end the season.”

Brody Paterson confirms Celtic departure

Disappointing to hear that the Celtic B youngster will be leaving the club in the summer. However, it’s clear he feels that this is the best step for this stage of his career.

Ange Postecoglou has shown that he’ll give youngsters an opportunity if he believes they have the talent and commitment. But for whatever reason, it doesn’t look as if Brody is going to be one of those.

The left-back picture at Parkhead is absolutely crowded at the moment. Greg Taylor, Liam Scales, Josip Juranovic, and Boli Bolingoli can all play in the position. Not to mention it’s an area of the pitch we all hope will be bolstered this summer in any case.

Hopefully, he can end his season on a high and bag promotion to the Championship. Whether that would lead to a high-profile move this summer remains to be seen.

Wherever Brody ends up however, he’ll go with everyone’s best wishes.
