Bundesliga compared reported Celtic target with Chelsea’s Kai Havertz in 2021

Reported Celtic target Christopher Scott, of Bayern Munich, plays like Chelsea’s Champions League winner Kai Havertz.

That’s according to the Bundesliga themselves, with the league’s in-house media not shy of offering lofty comparisons for breakthrough stars. Hansi Flick, now the Germany manager, gave Christopher Scott his Bayern Munich debut, in early 2021, not long after inviting him to train with the first-team.

An exciting talent, for sure. Yet, he’s available. As reported yesterday, Scott has had talks with both Celtic and Brentford over a summer move. Sky Germany reporter Florian Plattenberg said Scott wants to play regularly, and Celtic have an excellent platform for him to do so.

Excitingly, it’s his style of play that’s earned comparisons with major stars. Having come through the Bayer Leverkusen academy initially, the Bundesliga reckon Scott is a bit like former Bayer man Kai Havertz.

Havertz, of course, earned a big-money move to Chelsea. He scored the winner in the Blues’ 2021 Champions League victory.

On Scott, the German top-flight said [Bundesliga]: “Constantly on the move and regularly finding space in central positions between the opposition defence and midfield, Scott is adept at receiving the ball on the half-turn from deep and instantly launching attacks.

“Quick, strong and an excellent dribbler, the right-footer is programmed to cause problems for opposing backlines, very much like fellow Leverkusen academy graduate Kai Havertz.”

“Programmed to cause problems”; Christopher Scott and Kai Havertz comparisons will work for Celtic supporters

Now, this sounds alright, doesn’t it?

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou likes players who can drift out of position, buzz around, win the ball and cause problems. Christopher Scott, a really highly-rated German youth international, does all that.

While Celtic now boast a fit Tom Rogic and Denmark youth star Matt O’Riley, pace would be nice. The Hoops already play at a frantic pace, but having someone as quick as Scott would be devastating. That, and he’s got immense potential and resale value; no wonder clubs with transfer histories like Celtic and Brentford are keen.

Though Brentford have the Premier League appeal, Celtic have a European stage. If the Scottish Premiership is won, Christopher Scott could compete at the highest level of club football. Not exactly a bad advertisement for a Celtic move.

Kai Havertz, of course, is still young himself. But on form, he’s excellent; adept on either wing, as a 10 or a false 9, he gives Chelsea untold options. Scott, who isn’t affixed to a particular starting position, has a similar approach. Technique-wise, he’d be comparable with the best of the Celtic squad.

It could be a really exciting story, this.

And knowing that even the Bundesliga themselves were comparing him to a German international and Champions League winner?

Nicht bad. Nicht bad at all.
