Celtic were thoroughly outclassed by Valencia in the first leg of their Europa League tie, losing 2-0.
Brendan Rodgers elected to play Oliver Burke as the lone striker, and you can see why. Burke has done well in that position in domestic football.
Europe is another matter completely though, and Burke failed to make an impact on the game. Burke only had one real moment in the game, put through on goal by a Scott Sinclair pass, but Neto rushed out to clear the danger.
Celtic improved slightly in the second-half, when Odsonne Edouard and Timothy Weah were introduced.
Burke was moved to his natural position on the wing, but failed to get into the game.
Burke himself doesn’t deserve any criticism for the performance. He tried his best, but it just didn’t happen for him. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if he is selected for the Hoops against Kilmarnock on Sunday.
That game is now vital for Celtic to show that they can bounce back from the loss to Valencia. Edouard probably deserves to start up-front after his second-half performance.
That would mean Burke perhaps moving to the wing. He will be eager to bounce-back against Killie, as will all of his team-mates.
