Callum McGregor admits that the Celtic players had an idea of what was happening at Pittodrie last night during their own game.
The midfielder says that “noises in the stadium” let him and his team-mates know something was going on, although they didn’t know for sure.
Neil Lennon’s men went two points clear at the Premiership summit after a last gasp victory over Hamilton was coupled with Rangers’ 2-2 at Aberdeen. And McGregor admits it was a “big win.”

“We didn’t know for definite but you could hear the noises in the stadium and it started to filter through after half-time,” he told press on Thursday, as shown on the official Celtic YouTube channel.
“Obviously, we just look after our own stuff. We try to go out and win the game. It was another big win to add on to what we’ve been doing which is great.”
McGregor comments on Celtic Park “noises” are very honest
It’s not too often that Celtic and Rangers play at the same time nowadays, so hearing they had squandered a two-goal lead as we scored at the death made it a pretty special night.
It’s interesting that McGregor was aware of what was happening elsewhere. Footballers often tell you that they’re so focussed on their own performance that they don’t hear the crowd, so it’s an interesting revelation from McGregor.

The midfielder’s comment on focussing on “our own stuff” is a very important one too. This Celtic team’s consistent trophy hunting over the past few years has been built on our own good work and not anything else done by the opposition.
It will stay that way this weekend as we hunt a tenth domestic honour in a row. If we get our own performance right, no other team in the country can deal with us. That’s the bottom line.
