A superb throwback image of Callum McGregor and Jack Grealish emerged on social media after Celtic and Man City’s title wins this season.

McGregor of course won his first Scottish Premiership title as Celtic captain this season in a monumental achievement for the academy graduate. Meanwhile, Grealish helped Man City to the Premier League after signing in a £100m summer move from Aston Villa [Sky Sports].

It’s a landmark season for both men, who once upon a time spent a season on loan at Notts County in the 2013/14 campaign. The duo helped County avoid relegation that year and have both come a long way since. And Celtic Collectibles on Twitter have published a superb image of the duo during their County days which you can see below:

If ever an image could show just how far the duo have come. From being fresh-faced talents looking to make an impression in the lower leagues to top-flight title-winners – it’s incredible stuff.

The pair could even meet each other next season in the UEFA Champions League with Celtic bagging automatic qualification to the group stage.

Grealish has talked up McGregor in the past and has claimed that he would be a “100%” success in the English Premier League [Daily Record].

It feels pretty fitting that Callum would win his first title as Celtic captain in the same year Grealish gets his hands on the EPL. It captures perfectly just how much both have progressed this season.

An encounter between the pair would certainly be interesting. Both are completely different types of players, with McGregor in particular a much more rounded player since his days with Notts County in League One.

Celtic of course played against Manchester City in the Champions League back in 2016. The Hoops managed to avoid defeat in both games, and 2 more glamorous re-matches between the clubs would be highly-anticipated if it does happen.

McGregor has also talked up Grealish in the past too as he stated how important their time together with Notts County was at the time [The Guardian].

Credit to both men on outstanding campaigns that deservedly ended in title success. It might not be a first for Callum, but this one will be extra special given it’s his first after taking over from Scott Brown.

Fingers crossed we see a repeat next season.
