This Celtic side has been one of the most relentless and dominant teams that I have seen this century. I know that’s a bold statement considering what we have witnessed under Martin O’Neill and Brendan Rodgers.
But Ange Postecoglou’s men have been outstanding this year. By far and away the best team in the league. Now, as a Celtic fan people will say that you are looking at this from a biased point of view. Of course, I am.
So let’s not take my word for it. Let me introduce to you the PFA’s Scottish Premiership’s Team of the Year:
Voted for the professionals by the professionals, this would be regarded by many footballers as the ultimate compliment of how their season has gone.
Comprising a 4-3-3, the team is as follows. Led in goal by Joe Hart, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Greg Taylor make three of the back four. James Tavernier was included in the backline.
In midfield, captain Callum McGregor was voted in as was Reo Hatate. Both have had an outstanding season bossing the centre of midfield. Malik Tillman of Rangers also made the cut.
And up front, the ever-impressive Kyogo Furuhashi leads the line alongside Motherwell’s Kevin Van Veen and Aberdeen’s Luis “Duk” Lopez.
Strangely, there was no place for Jota. The Portuguese wingman has been in sensational form for the Hoops this season.
For a winger, 14 goals and 11 assists in 34 appearances for Celtic is the kind of form that deserves a place in the team of the year. But then, we can’t have everyone from the Celtic first team in there. Can we?
But to be fair to Duk and Van Veen, they have been very impressive with the Aberdeen frontman contributing 18 goals to his team’s cause and 31-year-old Van Veen scoring 25 for The Well.
Congratulations to the Magnificent Seven that made the team. Every one of those places was well deserved.
