Celtic captain Callum McGregor has responded to comments from Philippe Clement as the Bhoys gear up for their Scottish Premiership opener against Kilmarnock.
The rival manager suggested earlier this week that Celtic only need to carry out a ‘small renovation with a few details’ while Rangers have a more challenging rebuild on their hands this summer [Sky Sports].
At times last campaign, the race for the title looked like it might go to the wire, but as supporters know, only one side showed the courage of their convictions to claim league glory. I don’t need to give any spoiler alerts regarding who that was.

Callum McGregor was the man to get his hands on the trophy at the end of 2023/24, and he has since responded to comments made by the Belgian.
Callum McGregor on Philippe Clement comments
Cited via Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on X, McGregor has reacted nonchalantly to the comments, detailing that he and the team are only focusing on internal matters concerning Celtic.
He stated when prompted on the topic: “No, to be honest. It’s not something that we’ve spoke about, we’ve looked at. We have our own set of problems and set of challenges we have to continue to face in order to get better as a club and as a squad of players.
“We’re too busy trying to demand the very best of each other, and what will be will be. all the things that we can control, we’re trying to control them and trying to push and demand as much as we can from the players. I’m sure once the season starts, everything will sort itself out.”
Celtic are only focusing on matters they can control
Celtic’s dressing room won’t really care what others are saying; there are far more important things to focus on, namely facing Kilmarnock on Sunday.
Despite having yet to sign an outfield player, Brendan Rodgers’ men have enjoyed an excellent pre-season, topping it off with three consecutive victories against DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea, netting 12 goals across these fixtures.
Hopefully, this can rub off when the competitive stuff starts. Derek McInnes has a durable outfit on his hands, so the Bhoys will need to put their best foot forward to get three points.
Imaginably, that is what McGregor and company will be honing in on as their pursuit of further silverware kicks in.
