Celtic’s Callum McGregor has disclosed what he told Hoops prodigy Karamoko Dembele just before the player have his Hoops debut.
The highly-rated starlet made his Hoops debut in the second-half of the 2-1 win over Hearts. McGregor has revealed his words to the player to put his mind at ease.
“I just said to him ‘you’ll be alright son’ and told him not to worry” McGregor said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
“Tried to calm any nerves”
“When it was him who went on I gave him a few words and tried to help him calm any nerves and hoped he did well. If just one of those words helped him settle then it was worth it.”
McGregor’s comments certainly worked, as Dembele seemed unfazed on what must have been a huge moment for the player.
He turned in a fine performance, causing Hearts plenty of problems.
Players to look-up to
Should Dembele stay at Celtic, he has players to look-up to who have been in a similar situation to him.
The likes of McGregor, James Forrest and Kieran Tierney have all had to deal with similar hype. That comes naturally at a club like Celtic. But those players have handled the pressure well.
The trio have all went on to have successful careers with the Hoops. If Dembele heeds the advice McGregor gave him, he could be next in line to have a great career at Celtic Park.
