Celtic go into Thursday’s Europa League group stage match against Lazio in a good position. The Bhoys sit at the top of Group E.
However, they face probably their toughest test in the group stages yet when they take on Lazio in Rome on Thursday night.
Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor, who will be a key man for the Hoops in the middle of the park, is under no illusions about how difficult the game will be.
“Have to play really well”
“We know it’ll be a tough game, and we’ll have to play really well to get something from the match” he said, as reported on Celtic’s official Twitter account.
Celtic should have confidence going into the game. The team is in a very good run of form. It should not be forgotten that they did defeat Lazio 2-1 in the last meeting between the teams.
However, playing in Celtic Park and playing in Rome will be completely different scenarios. Celtic may also have to possibly play in a more defensive style than they did in the meeting between the teams at Celtic Park.
Midfield duo will be key for the Hoops
McGregor and Scott Brown will be key men for Celtic in the middle of the park. They will be tasked with making sure that Lazio don’t gain control of the midfield area.
If they can win the midfield battle, then Celtic could have a real chance of pulling off a significant result in Rome. The Hoops don’t have the best record in Italy. However, this current Celtic team have done things no other Hoops team has.
They should be confident about getting a result against Lazio.
