Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor is hopeful that his goal in the 4-0 win over Motherwell on the 5th of February will go down as one of the goals of the season, the Celtic View reports.

McGregor’s goal has to go down as one of the best goals scored by a Celtic player in a long time. The Hoops midfielder found himself in space after some good passing play, and volleyed the ball home from the edge of the penalty area.

He hopes the goal gets the attention it deserves come the end of the season.

“Hopefully it will!”

“Will it be considered for Goal of the Season at the end of the campaign? Hopefully it will! It’s surely got to be up there as a contender, hasn’t it?” he said, as quoted by the Celtic View (Volume 55, Issue 29, Page 12).

McGregor’s wonder goal sums up just how well he has been playing for the Hoops over the last month.

Since Celtic returned to action after the winter break, he has scored four goals and his five assists. In total this season he has scored 10 goals, which could increase even further should he continue to thrive in the Hoops’ 3-5-2 formation.

Importance to team is at a new level

McGregor was always a key player for Celtic, but the goals and assists he has added to his repertoire since January has taken his importance to the side to a new level.

The Hoops have two big games in the week ahead, a trip to Aberdeen on league duty on Sunday, and the first leg of the Europa League last 32 against Copenhagen on Thursday. It would be no surprise to see McGregor continue his purple patch of form in both fixtures.
