With all the action taking place off the park at Celtic in the last 24 hours, it is worth noting that the Hoops are in action on Wednesday night against Hearts in a vital league game.

One player who will not be taking part in Neil Lennon’s first game in charge is Callum McGregor. The Scottish Sun has revealed the midfielder faces weeks out with a calf injury.

The report goes on to claim that McGregor’s aim is to be fit for the game against Rangers on the 30th of March.

Absence at a bad time

McGregor’s absence couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Hoops. He will miss the match against Hearts, as well as the Scottish Cup tie against Hibernian.

McGregor has been one of the best players in Scotland this season. The Hoops will badly miss his consistency from midfield. He makes Celtic tick, and Lennon will have to think long and hard about who replaces him in the side.

Midfield decimated by injuries

The Hoops have plenty of injury problems in midfield at the moment. Olivier Ntcham, Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie are all out. But the injury to McGregor could well be the biggest blow.

He makes Celtic tick, and trips to Tynecastle and Easter Road look hazardous without him in the side. It is important he is not rushed back into the team. But it would be a major boost if he returns before the end of March.
