Callum McGregor insists Celtic will keep their discipline at Ibrox

Callum McGregor says that he and his Celtic teammates will make sure to keep their cool at Ibrox on Sunday. Neil Lennon’s men travel to their fierce rivals knowing that the league is already in the bag – but that’s unlikely to make proceedings any friendlier in Govan.

March’s derby saw Rangers lose the rag among some goading from their Celtic counterparts. Steven Gerrard’s side had two men sent off while Ryan Kent received a retrospective two-match ban. Gerrard himself was also cited for misbehaviour while both clubs received fines.

With the Hoops set to come up against a backlash on Sunday, McGregor knows the importance of keeping calm.

“I think the atmosphere will always be charged in these games,” he told STV. “So it’ll always be about who keeps their temperament best on the day.

“For us, we’ve just got to keep our discipline, as we always have, keep 11 men on the pitch and see where that takes us.”

A thinly veiled dig

There’s a good chance McGregor knew what he was doing with his final comment. The Ibrox outfit have had no fewer than 12 dismissals this season with the majority coming for off the ball incidents.

A reaction may be less likely given their home advantage but our players should still keep that on their mind. Chief culprits Allan McGregor and Alfredo Morelos may not be on the pitch but other Gers men have been known to get wound up.

It would be no surprise to see the home side lose their discipline again on Sunday. Celtic must first do their talking on the pitch and then everything else will follow.
