When Celtic return to action after the international break, the season will really kick into gear. The Hoops will have to juggle Premiership games, Europa League fixtures, and Betfred Cup ties all in a short amount of time.
That will no doubt be a daunting task of Celtic’s group of players. Almost every midweek between September and December – discounting international breaks – the Hoops will be playing.
That is not something that concerns midfield man Callum McGregor. He is player who should know, as he played more minutes than any other player in football last season.
He is looking forward to the run of fixtures.
“We’re also used to playing Thursday-Sunday too” he said, as reported by the Celtic View (Volume 55, Issue 09, Page 12).
“We can handle that”
“The games come around that bit quicker, but we’ve proved that we can handle that pretty well, and that experience can only help us in what we’re trying to achieve this year.”
It has to be said that Celtic coped fairly well in games played following Europa League fixtures last season. They only failed to win three of the eight matches they played after Europa League ties.
Hoops will want to improve on record
That is a decent record, but it is one that the Hoops will be looking to better this season. Celtic have a big enough squad to cope with playing on three fronts between September and December.
McGregor sounds like he is looking forward to the task. Let’s hope that his team-mates feel the same way about the situation that the Bhoys find themselves in.
