Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has paid tribute to the influence that captain Scott Brown has on the team. He feels that playing alongside the Hoops skipper has made his game better overall.

“He’s an incredible player, and he has been for a decade or more at Celtic and before that as well” he said, as reported by the Herald.

“To play alongside him, you have to learn off him as well, and take all of those bits from his game and bring them into your own game to improve yourself too.”

Brown’s influence at Celtic still seems to be huge, even as he heads towards the latter stages of his career. The fact that he still strives to make his team-mates better shows that he is an ideal captain for the club.

Difficult to replace

How Celtic replace him in the years to come will be very interesting. McGregor could well be the natural replacement.

He is more of an attacking threat than Brown, but both players have similar styles. It is the measure of Brown as a player though that he is still so influential after 11 years at the club.

His departure will leave a void which will be very difficult to replace.

For now though, fans should enjoy Brown whilst he is still at the club. He will be a key man in the quest for nine, then 10 in a row.
