Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has been handed a major honour by Scotland manager Alex McLeish. The player will captain Scotland in Thursday’s match against Kazakhstan.
That could be a prelude to something which could eventually happen at Celtic Park – McGregor becoming Celtic’s next permanent captain.
Logical choice

When Scott Brown possibly retires in two years, McGregor seems like the logical choice to be the next Hoops skipper.
He’s an all-action midfielder, same as Brown. He has been at the club for years, and understands what Celtic is all about.

One other name in the frame
Perhaps the only player who could contest McGregor’s claim to be Hoops skipper is Kieran Tierney. However, McGregor has more experience and that should get him the nod for the role.

It must be said that McGregor is captaining Scotland as Andy Robertson is injured. However, the fact that McGregor has been handed the armband in only his 10th game for his country shows how highly he is rated.
McGregor has been a regular starter for Celtic for years, and has played in all manner of big games. He looks set to be a stalwart of both club and country for many years to come.
As a result, McGregor should get used to the captain’s armband. He could be wearing it for years to come at Celtic Park.
