Callum McGregor shares what Celtic plan to ‘tweak’ in future matches against Rangers

Celtic are seeking to put the disappointment of their defeat against Rangers behind them when they take on St Mirren tomorrow.

Brendan Rodgers lamented the Bhoys’ sloppy play at Ibrox that cost them in the end, but also admitted he didn’t make any half-time changes to offer his crop a chance to turn their fortunes around.

Out with the old and in with the new will be the slogan for Celtic. Tomorrow afternoon, St Mirren travel to Parkhead after their own defeat at Kilmarnock during midweek and preserving the double-digit lead at the top of the league standings has to be the priority.

With the next Glasgow Derby not pencilled in until March, barring a cup draw, the Hoops can hone in on a busy fixture run in the Scottish Premiership while also casting an eye to their exploits on the continent.

However, Callum McGregor has sent out signals regarding how side will counteract their under-par performance at Ibrox the next time Celtic meet Rangers.

Callum McGregor on what Celtic will ‘tweak’ vs Rangers

Speaking to Mailsport, McGregor admitted Celtic will look to ‘tweak’ their work on the ball when trying to break down Rangers’ low block that they have deployed in recent derby encounters.

He stated: “They were set up with the low block and we were finding it hard to get through. We need to look at that and we need to tweak it a little bit to give us a wee bit more comfort in the game and allow us to get the territory that will make us comfortable.

“So, there’s a couple of wee warning signs there and a lot of the big moments in the game have come from that, the sort of transition moments where they’ve managed to block a pass and then play forward from there.

“There are signs there that we have to fix it and try and fix it as quickly as we can.”

Celtic looking to learn lessons from Rangers defeat

There will always be an inquest after a derby defeat. Nevertheless, showing shoots of recovery tomorrow is the only viable approach for Celtic as they look to lay down a marker in the Scottish Premiership.

Despite frustration at Ibrox, they hold a healthy lead at the summit and have shown a remarkable level of consistency.

When that wanes, stepping up and hitting the doubters where it hurts can help to elevate positivity levels. Hopefully, they can oblige against St Mirren tomorrow!
