Celtic’s form this season has been relentless as Brendan Rodgers quickly asserts his dominance at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Sitting five points clear of Rangers with a Glasgow Derby win already under his belt, Rodgers’ intent is clear as Celtic have blown away the opposition not just in Scotland but also on the European scene.

The Celtic team also look like and play a close-knit bunch under the Irishman after an unbeaten start to the league campaign.

However, Callum McGregor has moved to clear up a rumour he’s heard about what happened against Hearts at Celtic Park in the 2-0 win over the Tynecastle club.

McGregor’s ‘cut and dry’ penalty chat with Reo Hatate

After a goalless first half, Celtic were awarded a penalty against Hearts which Arne Engels converted confidently.

Even so, before the Belgian converted the spot kick, McGregor was spotted having a chat with Reo Hatate before the Japanese midfielder handed the ball to Engels and the Celtic captain has moved to clear up a ‘rumour’ he’s heard about that conversation.

Speaking at Celtic’s press conference, McGregor said, “It was probably not what you thought it was actually, to be honest.

“I heard a wee rumour after that but it wasn’t that. Basically, they two were the penalty takers. Did one fancy it, did the other one fancy it? Who fancied it?

“Right okay, you take it so that was it. Pretty cut and dry. I don’t think it was anything too important for me to step in and deal with that.

“But Arne felt good and thankfully he scored as well, so that was all it was.”

Celtic captain shows his class

At the time, 67 Hail Hail discussed how McGregor stepped in to manage the situation between Hatate and Engels and how he showed real leadership at that moment.

Addressing the situation at yesterday’s press conference, the Celtic captain also showed true leadership in downplaying that moment to avoid any unnecessary headlines that could distract from the team’s preparations for the trip to St Johnstone.

Since earning the captaincy, McGregor has shown true leadership and has guided Celtic to seven trophies out of nine and to two big results in the Champions League against Slovan Bratislava and Feyenoord and under McGregor, the Celtic fans are sure to enjoy more success in the seasons to come.
