With Celtic set to break the world record for the number of domestic trebles ever won by a club in football, the captain Callum McGregor can also set his own record should Celtic overcome Inverness Caley Thistle in June.

McGregor will become the first footballer in the history of the game to have won five domestic trebles. It’s an incredible achievement and up until now, the Celtic captain has remained quiet about it.

McGregor said [The National], “You look at how many domestic leagues there are around the world it doesn’t really matter what level you’re at, to have that consistency and that hunger to win and win again is something that drives me.

“To have that number of trebles would be really special but I don’t think you get there unless you have the mindset that you want to be as good as you can be.

“Every single day you need to push yourself and it becomes a combination of everyone else doing the same. When you start out, if you’re looking for things like that, it can seem a million miles away, but this has crept up on me.

“And in terms of our next success, the cup gives us that opportunity and we want to get the trophy back to Celtic Park. In turn, that would give me a nice personal achievement as well.”

The Celtic captain’s drive and determination is something to be admired. McGregor talking about the hunger to win at Celtic is something that is even more evident now since he became the captain of the club.

His work in helping Ange Postecoglou rebuild Celtic also cannot be ignored. McGregor played through the pain barrier of a broken cheekbone in that famous 3-0 win over Rangers that took us to the top of the league last season and he hasn’t looked back since.

Over his career at Celtic, McGregor has amassed eight league titles, four Scottish Cups and seven league cups. He was also an integral part of the Quadruple Treble era which included the Invincible Treble season. McGregor is now the seventh most decorated player in Celtic’s history.

And should he manage to take Celtic to his first-ever treble as captain, he will cement his place as a Celtic legend in the history books alongside Scott Brown, and Billy McNeill.
