Callum McGregor’s new contract signing is a very welcome early Christmas present for the Celtic fans.
The new deal, which lasts until 2023, is a well deserved reward for one of Celtic’s better performers this season.
In fact, McGregor has been one of the team’s consistently best players under Brendan Rodgers.

McGregor, who scored on his Celtic debut in 2014, is one of the fan favourites at Parkhead.
The midfielder has played in just about every position across the Celtic midfield. He’s even filled in at left back on occasion.
McGregor has 34 goals in 201 Celtic appearances and his new deal should see him make 201 more.
MORE CELTIC STORIES
The Scot spoke of his delight at his new contract, telling the club’s official site: “For the fans, it’s just about me trying to be here for as long as I can.
“I just want to keep learning every day. I want to continue becoming a better player for this club.”

McGregor has reinvented himself again at Celtic, this time in a deeper midfield role.
During Celtic’s resurgence this season, he’s been seen as one of the main focal points for the turnaround.
His use of the ball is impeccable, and he allows flair players like Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic to get forward.
He could hardly hide his delight when explaining why he’s happy to stay at Celtic.
“This is an amazing place to play football, and the fans are amazing,” McGregor added.
“Celtic Park is one of the best arenas in world football.
“To actually get to play your football here every second Saturday is an incredible thing.”

McGregor is for life, not just Christmas
It’s very important to not understate what McGregor’s new contract means for Celtic. With interest from Bournemouth, it was important McGregor committed his future to Celtic.
The midfielder will be one of the first names on Rodgers’ team sheet in the next three games before the break.
And while many fans call for reinforcements, it’s still good to see Celtic tying down their best players for the next few years.
God willing, we may all wake up to Santa leaving a brand new contract with Dedryck Boyata’s signature on it.
