Celtic have confirmed the signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan from Tottenham Hotspur

The Hoops looked to have finalised their transfer business after the signings of Giorgos Giakoumakis and Jota respectively. However, within minutes of the deadline, Celtic have confirmed the addition of the Spurs defender.

Celtic have stated that the loan deal also contains an option to buy. It previously looked as though a move for the USA international was dead.

But Carter-Vickers has indeed joined up at Parkhead, and speaking about the move, he said the following via Celtic’s official website:

“I am absolutely delighted to agree this move to Celtic, it is a really exciting opportunity for me and I am desperate to meet my new team-mates and get going for the season ahead.

“I know I am going to a huge Club which means so much to so many people and I will be doing all I can to bring our fans the success which their support deserves.”

Celtic bag Cameron Carter-Vickers in the final minutes of deadline day

It’s been a while since Celtic have managed to pull a surprise out of the hat on deadline day. After all, we all thought their transfer business for the summer was over.

Instead, Carter-Vickers represents our 12th signing of the window. He also represents much-needed centre-back cover moving forward.

Celtic now have four solid, reliable centre-back options. Carter-Vickers joins the likes of Christopher Jullien, Stephen Welsh, and Carl Starfelt as Ange Postecoglou’s defensive reinforcements.

It remains to be seen if the player will walk into the starting line-up. However, he certainly brings plenty of experience at both Championship and Premier League level.

It also rounds off Celtic’s transfer business nicely. Whilst it would’ve been nice to have added one or two more to the mix, another centre-back option was essential.

Now, it’s time to see what Carter-Vickers can offer us moving forward, with heavy expectations on his shoulders.
