But tonight, Cameron Carter-Vickers and the United States get their campaign underway with a tasty looking clash against Wales in Al Rayyan.
While Carter-Vickers is perhaps an outsider to start the match, Celtic still took the opportunity to pass on their best wishes earlier on Twitter.
US boss Gregg Berhalter is perhaps more likely to go with the American-based partnership of Walker Zimmerman and Aaron Long at the back.
Yet, Carter-Vickers did feature in their most recent matches in the summer, and will surely be called upon in the event of injuries.
Just being in Qatar is a major reward for CCV’s sensational form since joining Celtic, initially on loan, last summer.
Such is the defender’s reliability, you would feel confident of him going up against even the world’s best attackers and not looking out of place.
Time will tell if he gets that opportunity. Tonight’s game kicks off at 7pm Celtic Park time.
